A last chance at a sad smile
strange to find comfort
in the ghosts knowing you by name
in a lost city with a hidden history
the streets walked by the confused
insulted by the catcalls of rouge angels
tempted by the neon lights of storefronts
selling wares better left undeclared
the sloping wooden boardwalk
a reminder of the quick descent ahead
into a watery space you never want to visit
rented cheap by the hour or forever
depending how well you can hold your breath
as the bottle in your pocket grows empty
the tearing apart of your heart just grows
the morphine shakes provide the rhythm
of an off beat waltz no one wants to dance
the moon a silent witness to it all
to the hack reporters about to miss deadline
to long faced whores whispering of discounts
to the suicides without the nerve or shoelaces
sometimes lost is better than found

I know it was a short month last month but you could have found time to send in a poem. You don't have to wait for me to say something. Anyway, this month will be a good one. Just got this one in under the wire. When I saw MassiveWanker74 I thought, dirty name, I might have to do some deleting for the kiddos. But as I explored further I realized it was legit. I chose Popcorn and Vodka and not because I like popcorn. It made me think of martini's. Dirty martinis, to be specific, dirty martinis with extra olives. The night practically writes itself. ohh, Yummy. So heres to dirty martinis and dirty names. Congratulations MassiveWanker74.
